Gundersholmen Coastal Fortress

The Fortress on the island of Gundersholmen was built during the 17th Century. In 1808 the English frigate Tartar and three other ships attempted to invade the town, but were chased out to sea by cannon fire from Gundersholmen. The Fort has been restored, and the sound of cannon fire can still be heard, at least on May 17th, Norway's Constitution Day. Information plaques are posted. At Gunnarsholmen there is an outdoor swimming pool which is accesible for disabled persons. There is also a harbour for boaters and a kiosk here in the summer.
