Spillum Steam Sawmill & Planing Factory - Norwegian Sawmill Museum

Share

The sawmill industry and lumber trade were the foundation of the town of Namsos. Norway's first steam saw, the Wullum saw, was set up here in Spillumsvika as early as 1853. The Spillum Steam Sawmill & Planing Factory was established in 1884. The past lives on at the Norwegian Sawmill Museum: the factory has been preserved in more or less its pre-1947 form, and you can see the old machines running at full speed. The planing factory is also intact, and still supplies planed boards and the factory's traditionally profiled mouldings.
