Originally Charlottenlund was bailiff Søren Daniell Schiøtz’s country house, built about 1828. It was named after his wife Charlotte, the daughter of Peder Valentin Rosenkilde. Between 1880 and 1908 the place was made into a fashionable tea-room, where the writer Aleksander Kielland was a regular customer. The house is both indoor and outdoor restored to Empire style from the time 1860-1880.
