Batalden Havbu

Batalden is an agricultural and fishing farm on the island of Store Batalden northwest of Florø. The island and the surrounding area experienced a golden age starting in the mid-1700s due to the rich herring fishery. Saltebua on Store Batalden is one of the few buildings of its kind that is left in Norway. The buildings on the island were constructed from 1820 to 1860. They have been renovated in order to satisfy the modern tourist's need for comfort, but great care has been taken to preserve the authentic atmosphere and the "soul" of the buildings. Gamlehuset, Havbua and Litlebua are worth a stay whether you want to be left in peace and take care of yourself, or need inspiring surroundings for conferences or seminars. In the cellar of Gamlehuset is Galleri Havbu, which displays works created by artists from the west coast. The hostess is an artist herself, also giving painting courses. Batalden has an invigorating landscape that is fine for walks, and you can also go fishing. The island is completely car-free, and you will never forget a hike to the top of Batalden mountain.
